Weather woes still haunt Lee USA

The Supermodifieds fielded eight entries for their feature event, and Dave Sanborn broke his streak of three straight runner-up finishes with a visit to victory lane. Sanborn’s car owner, Howdy Clapp, celebrated his birthday during the week,
and his driver gave him the best present he could have asked for.
Unfortunately, a couple of the other Supermod competitors had nights that were far from good, as the Lee wall gobbled up rookie drivers Roy Sargent and Matt Riley in separate single-car wrecks. Both cars received heavy damage, and it looks like it will take a lot of man hours and dollars to get both cars back in action.
Dave won the Heat.
In the Feature event Dave and Mike Ordway Jr. got tangled and the HClapp 61 is now in intensive care. Dave is ok and that is all that matters. We will be bringing out another car until we can get the HClapp 61 fixed and ready to run again.
Well the Picture tells the story of the Feature.

Dave Sanborn wrecked his Supermodified a week earlier in much more conventional fashion, clobbering the backstretch wall during his feature event, and his story this week is the one that turned out to have the happy ending.
You see, Sanborn had teamed up with veteran car owner Howdy Clapp during the off-season, taking over the seat that Bobby Melvin had filled the past few seasons. That move put his own car on the shelf and into the classifieds, but with no takers as yet, it made a nice backup to use while repairs are made to the primary car.
Sanborn made quick work of rookie Matt Riley, grabbing the lead on lap-5 of last week’s Super feature. Sanborn went the distance and picked up his second win of the year. If my calculations are right, he also reclaimed the point lead from Mike Ordway Jr., in the process. Not a bad way to bounce back from a wreck.
